In a petition dated 10 September UK based Campaign for the Protection of Religious Minorities in Bangladesh (CPRMB) draws British Anne Main MP’s attention to the sufferings of the minorities in Bangladesh.

The petition goes on to say Hindus are the minority in Bangladesh, and they are leaving Bangladesh in thousands according to the census of Bangladesh Government. According to one research report ‘774 Hindus left Bangladesh every day between 2001 and 2012’.

There may be so many other issues, but it is CPRMB’s view that a lack of safety and security with the failure to protect the assets of minority community are the main reasons behind Hindus leaving Bangladesh.

CPRMB praises Bangladesh for proving shelter to thousands of Rohingya refugees but expresses concern of the high risk of growing international extremism which needs to be monitored.

The minority organisation wants Anne Main MP, who is Chair of UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh, to request the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to take appropriate action to protect the minorities and uphold their basic human rights.

The same petition has been sent to Bob Blackman MP & Paul Scully MP who are due to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 17 September. The petition was signed by CPRMB’s President Devasish Das, General Secretary Ajit Saha and Advisor Mihir Sarkar.

A seminar is also being held on Bangladesh Democracy and Economic development on 5 November at House of Commons with the cooperation of CPRMB.
